sponsor for the evening, Busch Martec. Karl F. Hils of Busch
Martec introduced our speaker for the evening, Denny Chamberlain
from Cambridgeport Air Systems in Boston. Denny talked about
the quality of construction and the heat exchange systems
that go into their air handlers along with their ability to
customize units so that they fit on elevators and into tight
spaces.
Business Meeting: Ray Franks called
the meeting to order at 7:45 P.M. The minutes of the November
2004 meeting were approved as printed. The attendance for
this evening's meeting was as follows: 19 hospital members;

December's Meeting Sponsor
HESP extends its thanks and appreciation
to: Busch Martec. The following synopsis was submitted.
Synopsis of 7 Dec 04 Presentation on Cambridgeport
Air Systems
Busch Martec was the meeting sponsor. Karl
Hils of Busch Martec introduced Denny Chamberlain, of Cambridgeport
Air Systems (CAS) from Boston, MA, who gave a presentation
on the company's custom air handler, and energy recovery,
product offering. CAS has been manufacturing custom air handlers
and accessory products for the HVAC industry for over 25 years.
Their unique casing design allows the unit interior material
to be the same or different than the exterior material. Materials
available are galvanized steel, aluminum or stainless steel.
Powder coat paint that meets the ASTM 1000 hour salt spray
requirement is available. The double-wall panels are foam
insulated at CAS's facility. The foam insulation provides
twice the insulating value of fiber insulation and makes a
very strong, rigid panel. The presentation reinforced that
CAS can meet most custom air handler requirements and units
have ETL certification. CAS also manufactures energy recovery
ventilators (ERVs) using enthalpy wheels, heat pipes and/or
plate heat exchangers for ventilation air pre-treatment. Dehumidification
units are available with MSP (Multiple Small Plate) Technology*
for applications requiring air dried down to 38 grains/pound
or actively regenerated desiccants for applications requiring
drier air. The MSP dehumidification module uses plate heat
exchangers in conjunction with a DX or chilled water dehumidification
coil. The cold, dehumidified air pre-cools the incoming air
stream, reducing the dehumidification tons (and resulting
utility costs) up to 35%. The sensible energy given up in
this pre-cooling process, heats up the cold, dehumidified
air stream so it leaves the unit warm and dry instead of cold
and saturated. No exhaust air is required to achieve these
tonnage and utility cost savings. Benefits of MSP dehumidification
units Vs actively regenerated desiccants include:
- MSP is compressor based so all technicians understand
the process and can work on these type of units. Very few
technicians understand actively regenerated desiccants and
can work on those systems.
- MSP uses about 1/2 of the BTUs of energy that a desiccant
unit does.
- MSP units have fewer serviceable components and simpler
controls than a desiccant unit
But, if your application requires an actively
regenerated desiccant unit, CAS can provide it. CAS differentiates
themselves from other air handler manufacturers in their engineering
support. CAS will help with unit design, critique designs
and/or value engineer designs. Modular units and palletized
units for field erection are also available. If you've got
a difficult application, contact Karl Hils or Pete Burtick
of Busch Martec, (Phone: 412-469-1400 or email: buschmartec@adelphia.net)
for assistance regarding Cambridgeport Air Systems. * MSP
Technology is patented by Nautica Dehumidifiers of Huntington,
NY
