Business Meeting Minutes
Call to Order: President Ray Franks
called the meeting to order at 6:45 P.M. Ray introduced our
sponsor for this evening, InterTECH
Security LLC. Gary Clark, Peggy Tiderman, Donald Holmes
and John Corb talked about and demonstrated security, fire
alarm, nurse call and CCTV systems that are available from
InterTECH Security LLC.
Business Meeting: Ray Franks called
the business meeting to order at 7:30 P.M. The minutes of
the February 2004 meeting were approved as printed. The attendance
for this evening's meeting was as follows: 24 hospital members,
30 associate members and 15 guests. The actual count was 86.
The 50/50 raffle was drawn. The winner was Mark Minoski, who
won $117.
Treasurer's Report: Dick Barker read
the treasurer's report and it was approved as read. Dick announced
that the name tags have been updated and that everyone should
have one by now. He asked that he be informed of any errors.
New Members: We had two candidates approved
for membership tonight: Charles Noll, Continental Office Environments
and Mark Heekin, Herman Miller for Healthcare. HESP welcomes
its new members.
Committee Reports
Education: Michael Bryer -- Mike said that he is
in the process of setting the dates for this year's Stationary
Engineers Class, probably to be held in September and/or October.
This year's curriculum will be on fire pumps. He is planning
two classes this year.
Newsletter: Ron Lukcic -- Ron thanked all of our advertisers
both old and new and said that he would be able to make minor
changes in copy, if necessary. Ron introduced Chuck Samuels,
our printer, who does an excellent job on the printing of
our publication. Ron also thanked Walt and Marion for the
excellent snacks and exceptional service.
Membership: Brenda Henwood -- Brenda reminded us of
our monthly membership "challenge." Prizes are given
to members of the organization having the most members present
at the meeting. Tonight was a three-way tie: Duquesne University,
St. Clair Hospital and Hanco, each having two members present.
Lottery tickets were given to all involved. Brenda said we
would be doing something similar next month.
Codes and Regulations: Bill Brooks -- No report.
ASHE: No Report. We are still looking for an ASHE
representative. [If you are interested in this position, please
Biomedical: Dan Procupp -- Dan says he has received
information from ASHE. The ASHE 41st Annual Conference &
Technical Exhibition of the American Society for Healthcare
Engineering of the American Hospital Association will be held
Sunday, July 25 through Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at the Gaylord
Palms Resort & Convention Center, Orlando, Florida, USA.
National Engineers Week was celebrated February 22 through
28, 2004. Information provided to us by the Burns Group, Matthew
J. Burns, PE, President. Besides Biotronics, Inc. having a
Clinical Equipment Management System program called Integrated
Technology Solutions (ITS), we have been informed by American
West Way that they would like to introduce their CEMS program
called HarvestCEMS by Harvest Data Systems. These programs
offer a PC based to an on-line solution to any hospital's
biomedical equipment maintenance management system. Both companies
would be happy to demonstrate their product.
We have continued contact with PAMIA (Philadelphia Area Medical
Instrumentation Association), a biomedical organization located
in the Philadelphia area. Their website can be located at:
www.pamia.org.
I will ask them if they would like to link up with our web
site.
Any further information pertaining to these subjects can
be obtained by contacting Dan Procupp at: procuppdj@upmc.com.
Christmas In April: Chuck Froetschel -- Chuck says
we have nothing lined up and could take a hiatus this year.
He said that in order to do a house next month we would need
someone to volunteer "rather quickly" for House
Captainand that we could pick a "light house." Siemens
and Cardello Electric have agreed to sponsor us if we were
to undertake this project.
Golf Outing: Steve Tarasovic -- Steve said that this
year's golf outing is scheduled for Thursday, September 16th
at the Lindenwood
Golf Club in Peters Township. More information to follow.
Holiday Party: Chuck Froetschel -- This year's holiday
party will be on Friday, December 10 at the American Serbian
Club, downstairs. The theme will be a Monte Carlo night with
games of chance, slots, poker, roulette, and a crap table.
No money will be involved, but we will be using "tickets"
given at the door. Chuck wanted to lower the cost and have
it at a more central location. Prizes will be given to the
lucky "winners." More information will be forthcoming.
Picnic: Bruce Saddler -- Bruce said that this year's
picnic will be on Saturday, July 24th at Overlook
Park, which is approximately one mile behind the Monroeville
Mall. Bruce has made arrangements for a caterer. Bruce is
soliciting ideas for activities. One activity will be "bouncy
boxing." Bruce is looking for volunteers to work on this
committee. A committee meeting is scheduled during next month's
meeting at 5:45 P.M.
Old Business: No report New Business: Alice Atkins
reported that our HESP web site is now up and running and
can be viewed at: www.hospital-engineers.org. The site contains
such information as membership costs, benefits, activities
and links to advertisers. Technical questions can be e-mailed
to the webmaster. Comments, suggestions, recommendations and
opinions should be directed to either Dan Procupp or Chuck
Froetschel. Their phone numbers can be found on the back of
the publication.
Adjournment: There being no further business, Ray
adjourned the meeting at 7:58 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Frank Rutledge.
