Business Meeting Minutes
Call to Order: President-Elect, Dan Procupp, called the meeting to order at 6:30
P.M. Dan introduced our sponsors for the evening: ASSA ABLOY and Agion
Antimicrobial. Robert Tibbling talked about the wide variety of locks and door
hardware available from ASSA ABLOY and Steve McIntosh told us about new
anti-microbial products for counter tops and door hardware available from his
company, Agion Technologies, Inc.
Business Meeting: Dan called the meeting to order at 7:45 P.M. Dan pointed out
two errors in the minutes of the November 2005 meeting. A vote was taken that
the minutes would be approved as printed with the following correction under
new business: Tonight we had elections for officers for 2006. The winners
were: President-elect Terry Kocian, Bio-Medical Technician at St. Clair
Hospital. The attendance for this evening's meeting was as follows: 22
hospital members; 24 associate members;and 6 guests. The actual count was 70.
Treasurer's Report: Dick Barker -- Dick read the Treasurer's report. It was
approved as read. Dick also stated that he is "short" a few payments for ads
and prompt payment would be appreciated. Dick also announced that he would
need a final count this evening for Friday's Holiday Party. The 50/50 raffle
was drawn. Bruce Sadler won $73.00.
New Members: No new members were approved this evening.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Education: Michael Bryer -- Mike stated that this year's Stationary Engineers'
class was held on November 10th at Duquesne University. Mike said that the
class, which covered air compression, boiler startup and shutdown, had 35
participants and was a great program, which was well received. Mike remains
open to ideas and suggestions for next year's class. Thank You, Mike, from all
of us for a job well done!
Newsletter: Ron Lukcic -- Ron thanked our advertisers, both old and new. Thanks
and appreciation were given to Walt and Marion, our dispenser and
dispenser-ette and to our caterer. As always, Ron is looking for articles of
interest and/or humor for the newsletter.
Codes and Regulations: Bill Brooks -- No Report.
ASHE: Chuck brought our attention to a WMTS alert that will be in the newsletter
and on the web site.
Biomed: Dan Procupp -- No Report.
Membership: Brenda Henwood -- No report.
Holiday Party: Chuck Froetschel -- Chuck mentioned that this year's Holiday/Awards Party will be similar to last year's function, a Monte Carlo night. The
event will be held at the American Serbian Club this Friday, December 9th.
Additionally, we will have music this year, along with Karaoke. Chuck said
that vendor donations would also be greatly appreciated.
Picnic: Bruce Saddler -- Bruce suggested possibly changing the format for the
picnic. He said that with attendance declining, we should think about
alternatives. Dick Barker pointed out that membership in the organization is
also declining. Suggestions included: a Pirate or Washington Wild Things
Baseball day, or a Kennywood Picnic, or to have a shorter version of our
current picnic. Bruce noted that if we were to want our grove at Overlook
Park, a decision would have to be made tonight since the grove needs to be
reserved on the first business day of the year. A motion was made and a vote
was taken that for now we will plan on attending a Washington Wild Things
game, pending final approval at February's meeting. Until then, other
suggestions will be accepted for a final vote in February. Bruce will be
providing more information on The Washington Wild Things. This motion was
passed along with the membership's gratitude to Bruce and the entire picnic
committee for all of their hard work and dedication over the years.
Web Site/Marketing: Alice Hoffmaster (The Write Design) -- Alice said that she is
looking for employment ads or articles of interest for the newsletter and web
site. Alice also reminded us to check the HESP web site and sign up for the
Newsflash.
Old Business: Tom Kastelic -- Tom reported on last month's project, which
involved renovations and repairs to the home of a family in Verona who lost
their father. This work was done in the form of a "Christmas in April" project
on Saturday, November 5th. The entire inside of the house was painted and 250'
of baseboard was installed. The basement was cleaned along with some work on
the flower beds. HESP wishes to thank all members who participated, along with
Sherwin Williams, Grainger, LifeCare Hospitals and Boy Scout Troop #139 for
their generous donations to this project. Pictures are available for viewing
on the HESP web site.
New Business: Ron Lukcic, HESP's Editor, suggested that for reasons beyond our control we, as an organization, will no further associated this organization
with the once-called project known as "Christmas in April." Ron suggested that
we name our wonderful endeavor the following: HESP's HESP, standing
for: HESP's Hospital Engineers Special Projects. By doing this, HESP can
choose whom we are helping, when and have total control of the projects. Mike
Bryer suggested an alternative suggestion. A vote was taken and passed,
dependent on the final name for this endeavor. Ron Lukcic announced that with
the exception of Friday's Holiday Party, tonight will be the last night that
we will experience the exceptional and loving services of Walt and Marion as
our spirits dispensers. John Romick made a motion that Walt and Marion become
honorary members and that they be entitled and invited to attend any HESP
meeting or event as a guest of the president. This motion was put to a vote
and passed.
Adjournment: There being no further business, Dan adjourned the meeting at 7:55
P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Frank Rutledge, Secretary

December's Meeting Sponsor
HESP extends its thanks and appreciation to Door Security Solutions.
ASSA ABLOY Introduces Antimicrobial Coating to HESP Attendees
During the December 6th business meeting, attendees from ASSA ABLOY Americas and
AgION Technologies presented the science and benefits of their ionic
silver-based antimicrobial coating provided on the vast majority of ASSA ABLOY's
locks, locking systems and architectural door hardware products for healthcare
facilities.
Concerns over hospital-acquired infections and the impact of antibiotic
resistant bacteria lead ASSA ABLOY and AgION Technologies to collaborate on this
innovative antimicrobial coating engineered to interrupt the chain of
contamination that contributes to infections.
Participants from ASSA ABLOY and AgION Technologies explained how surfaces
protected by coatings containing an ionic silver-based antimicrobial may be an
effective adjunct to current cleaning and sanitation procedures in hospitals.
Hospital acquired infections pose a significant problem for the healthcare
industry. Ionic-silver is one potential solution. Incorporated into coatings and
surfaces, ionic silver provides a safe, long lasting and effective way of
controlling the levels of bacteria on hospital surfaces.
ASSA ABLOY is the world's leading manufacturer and supplier of locks and locking
solutions with over 100 brands across the globe. Agion Technologies is the
leading provider of ionic-silver technologies to inhibit bacteria on surfaces
and improve cleanliness.
