Business Meeting Minutes
Call to Order: President Roy Brunner
called the meeting to order at 6:45 P.M. Roy introduced our
speaker for the evening, Maria Javorsky-Healey from OSHA.
Maria talked about OSHA regulations in general and how they
pertain to hospitals.
Business Meeting: Roy called the meeting to order at
7:45 P.M. The minutes of the April 2005 meeting were approved
as printed. The attendance for this evening's meeting was
as follows: 21 hospital members; 25 associate members; and
10 guests. The actual count was 63.
Treasurer's Report: Dick Barker -- Dick Barker read the
Treasurer's report. It was approved as read.
New Members: There was one candidate approved for membership
this evening: Doug
Anderson of Geo. V. Hamilton, Inc. HESP welcomes its new member.
Guests: Ed Furman from Children's Hospital Pittsburgh
and Jerry Samek and Jerome Machnik from ServiceMaster introduced
themselves.
Committee Reports
Education: Michael Bryer -- Mike is
working on a program for Stationary Engineer
training classes for the fall. Mike is open to suggestions
and ideas, and
would welcome volunteers to help on this committee. Mike's
contact information
is on the back of the newsletter.
Newsletter: Ron Lukcic -- Ron expressed concern that
some of the newsletters
might have been damaged in the mail. Ron also thanked our
advertisers, both
old and new. Thanks and appreciation were given to Walt and
Marion and our
caterers. As always, Ron is looking for articles of interest
and / or humor
for the newsletter.
Codes and Regulations: Bill Brooks -- No Report.
ASHE: Roy mentioned ASHE news flash #15, reporting
that several hospitals across
the country have had persons impersonating JCAHO inspectors.
These people
wanted to see sensitive areas of the facility such as boiler
rooms but quickly
left the premises after being questioned. JCAHO asks that
if you have such a
person come to your facility, to ask for identification and
photocopy it if
possible, record any license plate number and preserve any
surveillance video
of the area. These incidents should be reported to your local
police and to
MCAC at: 301-586-4603. Roy would be happy to send this bulletin
to anyone
interested. Roy's contact information is on the back of the
newsletter.
Biomed: Dan Procupp -- No Report.
Golf Outing: Steve Tarasovic -- Thursday,
September 15, 2005 is this year's date for the golf outing
to be held at the Lindenwood
Golf Club in Peters Township. More details to follow.
Look for a mailing in early July.
Membership: Brenda Henwood -- No Report.
Roy asked vendors to mention our organization when talking
to hospital people.
Holiday Party: Chuck Froetschel -- Chuck
said that he is planing this year's
holiday party to be similar to last year's function, a Monte
Carlo night. The
event will be held at the American Serbian Club on Friday,
December 9th. Chuck
mentioned that we will have one more slot machine and music
this year. He is
looking for ideas and suggestions..
Picnic: Bruce Saddler -- Bruce reminded
us that this year's picnic will be held on July 23rd at at
Overlook Park
in Monroeville. He is in the process of reserving the caterer
and the entertainment. He has "Giant Trike Racing"
lined up. ruce is also looking for ideas, suggestions and
volunteers. Please contact Bruce or Ron Gault [for

Web Site/Marketing: Alice Atkins (The
Write Design) -- Alice is looking for stories of interest
and reminded everyone to check the web site for information
and job listings.
Old Business: Roy reminded everyone
that ALPS Controls Inc. is offering a special Belimo valve
retrofit to our HESP membership. If you are a member of HESP

New Business: No report.

synopsis follows.
The presentation covered the who, what, and hows of an OSHA
inspection (Who is covered by OSHA; What gets OSHA to a jobsite;
and How an inspection is conducted). Additionally, the presentation
included a review of the top ten cited standards for hospitals.
In closing, the OSHA website was reviewed with applicable
sections being discussed.
