Business Meeting Minutes
CALL TO ORDER: President, Terry Kocian, called the meeting to order at 6:45 P.M.
Terry introduced our sponsor for the evening: ControlsLink, Inc. and Bill
Nethen, our speaker for the evening. Bill gave a very informative presentation
explaining Electric Arc Flash and Arc Blast Hazards.
BUSINESS MEETING: President, Terry Kocian called the meeting to order 7:45 P.M.
The attendance for this evening's meeting was as follows: 20 hospital members;
16 associate members; and 12 guests. The actual count was fifty-nine (59). The
minutes of the October 2007 meeting were approved as published.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Dick Barker -- Dick read the Treasurer's report. It was
approved as read.
NEW MEMBERS: There were no new applicants for membership tonight.
GUESTS: We had one guest introduce himself, Tim Matura of FIT OPS.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
EDUCATION: Michael Bryer -- Mike announced that this year's education program
will be held on Tuesday, December 18th at Duquesne University. Class content
will be heating systems overview and will include a tour of a new facility at
Duquesne University which will be opening in January. This class, which
provides the eight (8) contact hours needed for The City of Pittsburgh
Stationary Engineers License includes lunch and parking. The cost is $125 for
members and $150 for non-members. Mike said that previous attendees will be
contacted by mail; others can register on the web site.
NEWSLETTER: Ron Lukcic -- Ron expressed our thanks to all of our advertisers and
said that he is looking for ads for next year. QUICKLY!! As usual, Ron is
looking for articles of interest and / or humor for the newsletter. Ron also
thanked Mark Lantz, Investment Executive, for the snacks.
CODES AND REGULATIONS: Bill Brooks -- No Report.
ASHE: No Report.
BIOMED: Dan Procupp -- Bob Tobin. No Report.
MEMBERSHIP: Brenda Henwood -- No Report.
HOLIDAY PARTY: Chuck Froetschel -- Chuck said that this year's party will be at
the American Serbian Club on Friday, December 7, 2007 -- downstairs. Chuck
said that we will be having a "Game Show Mania" where contestants will compete
for prizes. He is open to suggestions and volunteers for this committee. It
sounds like a fun idea and guests are encouraged to register early. More info
to follow.
SUMMER ACTIVITY: Bruce Saddler -- No Report.
GOLF OUTING: Steve Tarasovic -- No Report.
WEB SITE/MARKETING: Alice Hoffmaster (The Write Design) -- Alice asked that
everyone check the web site and sign up!! Ron, along with the rest of the
membership, expressed our thanks to Alice for all of her hard work on a great
web site.
HOSPITAL ENGINEERS SPECIAL PROJECTS: This project is to erect a smoking/picnic
pavilion at The Mechling-Shakley Veterans Center, Cowansville, Pa., about
forty (40) miles from Pittsburgh. Chuck recently drove there to look at it and
announced that the officers of HESP agreed to forego their holiday awards this
year and donate the money to this project. We are looking at parliamentary
figures for material at approximately $5,000 to $7,000. For additional

OLD BUSINESS: No Report.
NEW BUSINESS: Terry reminded us that we are still looking for a President-Elect
who will serve as President in 2009. Terry said that this is a fun and
rewarding position with lots of help from the board and the membership. Anyone
who would like to run for this position is asked to contact Terry or any other
board members whose contact information is available on the back of the
publication or on the web site.
Also, after many years of dedicated service, Dick Barker will be retiring as
treasurer and we will need someone else to fill in by 2009...at the latest.
Persons interested in this opportunity are also requested to contact one of
the board members.
Terry also pointed out that we are in need of sponsors. January's meeting
remains open. January's meeting has been moved to January 8th, the SECOND
Tuesday of the month, since the 1st Tuesday falls on New Year's Day.
Matt Szanca announced that NAPE, National Association of Powers Engineers, has
moved its meetings to The Carnegie Library of Homestead located at 510 East
10th Avenue, front entrance. Matt said that he will post NAPE information on
the web site. Thanks, Matt, for all of your hard work.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business, Terry adjourned the meeting at
8:15 P.M.

NOVEMBER'S MEETING SPONSOR
